Nigeria once again shone brilliantly on the regional aviation arena as two key airports have been recognised by the Airports Council International (ACI) Africa for their exceptional performance in airport emergency management and resilience.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant for Media and Communications to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Tunde Moshood.
The two terminals, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja and the Port Harcourt International Airport were celebrated at the prestigious ACI Africa awards gala, held during the 33rd Annual General Assembly in Johannesburg, South Africa.
According to Moshood, the awards, presented by ACI Africa Secretary-General, Ali Tounsi and President, Emmanuel Chaves, are a testament to the outstanding dedication of both airports in upholding global standards of safety and crisis management.
This recognition not only highlights the resilience of these airports but also shines a spotlight on Nigeria’s continuous drive to excel in aviation management.
According to him, at the heart of this accomplishment is Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, whose leadership has been instrumental in steering Nigeria’s aviation industry towards global excellence.
His focus on enhancing operational standards, safety protocols, and emergency response mechanisms has contributed significantly to the recognition of both airports on the international stage.
Speaking at the event, ACI Africa President Emmanuel Chaves commended the Nigerian airports for their unwavering commitment to ensuring passenger safety and operational resilience.
“In an industry where the unexpected can occur at any time, the importance of robust emergency management cannot be overstated.
Nigeria’s Nnamdi Azikiwe and Port Harcourt airports have shown exemplary performance in this area, setting a benchmark for others to follow,” he stated.
The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport and Port Harcourt International Airport have long been pivotal in the country’s aviation network.
Their strategic roles as major hubs in domestic and international air travel make their commitment to emergency preparedness and resilience even more critical.
The statement added that the recognition from ACI Africa was not just a win for the two airports but a celebration of the collective efforts of all stakeholders in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
“This recognition is a reflection of the hard work, dedication, and collaborative efforts of the Ministry, airport authorities, and every individual who has contributed to ensuring that Nigerian airports meet the highest global standards in safety and resilience,” he said.
He added that the accolades are a significant milestone in Nigeria’s aviation journey, reaffirming the country’s position as a leading player in the African aviation landscape.
With continued efforts to improve infrastructure, enhance safety protocols, and provide seamless travel experiences, Nigeria’s airports are on the path to further international recognition and success.
