The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), on Sunday, said it has commenced full investigations into a serious incident involving a Boeing 737 jetliner belonging to Aerocontractors with registration number 5N-BYQ.
The incident, according to the Bureau, occurred around 10:47am (Local Time) on Sunday, November 12.
It explained that the aero aircraft, on landing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja from Lagos and as the airplane maneuvered to exit the runway via A4 had its nose wheel entangled in the grass verge with its fuselage on the runway.
The development forced the airport authorities to shut the runway to make room for the incident airplane’s evacuation from the troubled spot.
There was no injury or fatality.
The NSIB also solicited information from the general public in the form of pictures, videos and other recording evidence to assist in conducting a comprehensive investigation.
Meanwhile, Aerocontractors said it was cooperating with all relevant agencies, especially the NSIB, to ensure the probe is successful.
The airline in a statement said all passengers were successfully evacuated following laid down procedures.
The Managing Director of Aero Contractors, Captain Ado Sanusi said: “We apologise for the inconveniences caused to our customers and other airport users. Our team with the assistance of the airport management have already towed the aircraft from the taxiway.
“We are equally cooperating with the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the National Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) as they carry out their investigations.
“Our mantra in Aero Contractors is safety, and our long history is a testimony to this.”
