To promote smooth transition and revitalise its workforce, Air Peace, has announced the promotion of Senior First Officer Chibuzo Mbanefo to the esteemed rank of Captain on its Boeing 777 fleet.
This milestone, according to Dr. Ejike Ndiulo, the Head, Corporate Communications, highlights Air Peace’s staunch dedication to fostering indigenous aviation talent and maintaining world-class operational standards.
He said Captain Mbanefo’s journey to the left seat is a testament to his exceptional skill, discipline, and leadership.
Having accumulated over 4,800 flight hours on the right-hand seat of the B777, he successfully completed a rigorous command upgrade training programme, demonstrating remarkable proficiency and commitment to safety.
While introducing him to the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of Air Peace, Dr. Allen Onyema, and the Chief Operating Officer, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Olajide, Captain Gerald Udaya lauded Mbanefo’s outstanding qualities, emphasizing his strong work ethic and technical excellence.
“I am immensely proud to witness Captain Mbanefo’s elevation.
“He has shown remarkable competence and resilience throughout his training, and this promotion is well deserved,” Udaya stated.
The highlight of the ceremony was the symbolic epaulette change, performed by Dr. Onyema and Mrs. Olajide, marking Mbanefo’s official transition to Captain. Reflecting on his journey, Captain Iwo-Brown urged him to remain disciplined, uphold strict adherence to aviation protocols, and prioritize safety—key principles for a successful career in aviation.
In an emotional address, Captain Mbanefo expressed profound gratitude to Dr. Onyema, his family, and the entire Air Peace flight operations management for their unwavering support.
“I began my aviation career as a flight dispatcher. With the Chairman’s support, I transitioned from Cadet to First Officer, training rigorously on the Boeing 737. While I had the option to become a Captain on the B737, my passion for the B777 guided my career path—a decision that has now led to this proud moment,” he recalled.
Congratulating the newly promoted Captain, Dr. Onyema reaffirmed Air Peace’s mission to empower Nigerian pilots and cultivate a culture of excellence.
“At Air Peace, we believe in recognizing and rewarding excellence.
“Captain Mbanefo has exhibited outstanding professionalism and dedication, and we are incredibly proud to see him take this next step in his career.
“This promotion aligns with our vision to build local capacity and sustain world-class flight operations,” he stated.
Dr. Onyema further encouraged the new Captain to embrace his role with responsibility, emphasizing the virtues of humility, continuous learning, and an unwavering commitment to safety.
“Your character will ultimately determine your altitude in life,” he advised.
The promotion ceremony, held at the Air Peace Corporate Headquarters, was attended by the airline’s leadership team, including Dr. Onyema, Mrs. Olajide, senior flight operations executives, Captain Mbanefo’s wife and family, and well-wishers.
