Again, Air Peace has clarified its ongoing dispute with Smartlynx Airlines, stating unequivocally that it has no intention of detaining any lessor’s aircraft, whether in Nigeria or elsewhere.

According to the airline, the current debacle arose from alleged fraudulent practices by Smartlynx during the execution of multiple damp lease agreements.

The dispute involves Smartlynx Airlines Malta Limited, SIA Smartlynx Airlines, and Smartlynx Estonia OU.

Air Peace explained that it entered into damp lease arrangements for four aircraft to support peak-season operations, a standard global aviation practice in which an aircraft is provided with partial crew, while the lessee handles other operational components.

Instead of ensuring seamless service delivery, the airline claims Smartlynx caused severe operational disruptions and inflicted significant financial and reputational damage.

Air Peace alleges that Smartlynx deliberately defrauded the airline, obtaining several million dollars in advance payments under the guise of operating prepaid block hours.

The Nigerian carrier said Smartlynx was fully aware, months before taking the payments, that it would not operate the agreed hours.

Despite this knowledge, the lessor allegedly continued to demand and receive funds “under false pretences.”

According to Air Peace, its total losses attributable to Smartlynx currently stand at USD 38,042,843.84, a figure the company describes as both staggering and unacceptable.

The losses encompass financial damage, disruptions to scheduled operations during a peak travel period, and long-term reputational harm.

In response to these developments, Air Peace initiated legal action against the Smartlynx entities.

The airline confirmed that on 12 November 2025, the court issued an order against Smartlynx, an important step in its effort to recover losses and hold the lessor accountable.

Air Peace emphasised that its public statement is meant to provide clarity and counter any misleading narratives.

The airline reaffirmed its respect for international aviation standards and insisted that it remains focused on delivering safe, reliable, and world-class service to passengers.

The carrier stressed that it will pursue the matter to its logical conclusion while maintaining transparency and adherence to due process.
