Flight operations at Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, will officially resume on Monday, April 28, 2025, following the swift completion of emergency runway repairs.
This was disclosed by the Director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah in a statement.
FAAN suspended operations at the airport on April 18 after a sudden rupture was detected on a critical section of the runway surface.
According to her, emergency repairs began on April 22, with the initial plan targeting May 6 for reopening.
Thanks to expedited efforts by FAAN engineers, the runway has now been fully restored and cleared for landings and takeoffs well ahead of schedule.
FAAN has expressed deep appreciation to travelers, airline partners, and other stakeholders for their patience and support during the temporary closure.
“The Authority sincerely apologises for the inconvenience but assures the public that all actions were taken in the interest of safety,” FAAN said in a statement.
The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to delivering safe skies, secure airports, and seamless travel experiences across Nigeria.
