The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has commended President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, for suspending the 4% Free-on-Board (FOB) levy on imports, describing the decision as timely and strategic for the nation’s aviation sector.
“This suspension is a clear demonstration of President Tinubu’s commitment to creating a business-friendly environment, protecting critical sectors of the economy, and promoting sustainable growth,” AON stated.
The association noted that, if implemented, the levy would have significantly increased operating costs for airlines, compounding challenges in an already constrained industry.
AON particularly lauded Edun for his “exemplary leadership as a listening Minister who has shown deep patriotism and responsiveness by heeding the concerns of stakeholders. His decision reflects a strong commitment to carrying out the mandate of the President with diligence, sensitivity and fairness to all sectors of the economy.”
The association emphasised that the suspension would help safeguard jobs, reduce inflationary pressures and maintain Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global business environment.
AON reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with the government to strengthen the aviation industry and contribute meaningfully to President Tinubu’s vision for economic growth and national development.
“This bold and thoughtful intervention will go a long way in sustaining the sector and ensuring stability for airlines and their workforce,” the statement noted.
