Domestic operators on the platform of Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) have extended heartfelt commendation to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo for his strong commitment to the advancement and sustainability of Nigeria’s local airline industry.
In a statement signed by AON Vice President, Chief Allen Onyema, the association lauded the Minister’s visionary leadership and reform-driven agenda, describing him as God-sent to Nigeria’s aviation industry.
“Love him or hate him, believe it or not, Festus Keyamo is absolutely God-sent to Nigeria’s aviation industry.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a genius when selecting the right persons for strategic positions of immense national importance. The appointment of Keyamo is one made right”, he stated to buttress AON’s position.
The body reckoned that since Keyamo assumed office in August 2023, he has championed a comprehensive five-point agenda aimed at transforming Nigeria’s aviation landscape.
Notably, the second pillar of this plan prioritises “supporting the growth and sustenance of local airline businesses whilst holding them to the highest international standards.”
According to AON, the Minister has consistently demonstrated rare political will and an in-depth understanding of the industry’s unique challenges.
His targeted interventions and forward-thinking reforms have not only safeguarded the interests of domestic carriers but have also enhanced Nigeria’s standing on the global aviation stage.
“This Minister has repositioned Nigeria’s aviation and Nigeria positively on the global scene. In the coming weeks, Nigerian airlines will begin receiving the all-important dry-leased aircraft, a landmark development that will empower operators to grow their fleets with greater ease and affordability”, the statement added.
AON also commended President Tinubu for his unflinching support of the Minister’s initiatives, noting the importance of high-level backing in driving sectoral growth.
“We commend the Federal Government for seeking ways to address the capacity challenges faced by local airlines, rather than demonising them for lack of capacity—an ugly trend that marred the past. This new direction reflects true leadership and patriotic pragmatism.”
