Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has intervened in the planned strike of Aviation Security (AvSec) and logistics sub-sector strike planned to commence today, Wednesday 16, 2023.
The apex regulatory body in a statement asked for a week extension on the matter so that it can address the issue raised by the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE)
Comrade Ocheme Aba, NUATE General secretary confirmed the development saying the Director General on NCAA, Captain Musa Nuhu had intervened by asking for a week’s extension.
The union therefore asked members to stay action on the strike, which was expected to commence this afternoon while awaiting official letter from NCAA on its interventions.
Aba recalled that the union has been on the issue for over two years.
NCAA official letter to NUATE reads:
Your letter of 3rd August 2023 on the above subject matter refers. The Authority seeks your indulgence to postpone the withdrawal of services by the private security firms at the nation’s airport scheduled to start on Wednesday 16th August 2023.
This will create an opportunity for the Authority to intervene in this dispute and with a view to find lasting solutions to the issues raised by NUATE. A meeting will be called with the union, private security firms and the airlines.
You may wish to note the precarious situation of the aviation industry as such we must all collaborate to avoid making matters worse for all stakeholders.
Awaiting your kind response please.
Captain Musa S. Nuhu Director General of Civil Aviation
