The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has handed Binani Air Global Services the green light to begin scheduled flight operations by issuing it an Air Operators Certificate.

The development is a significant moment for diversity and competition in Nigeria’s aviation sector.

At the presentation ceremony in Abuja on March 18, 2026, the Director-General of Civil Aviation, Chris Najomo, hailed the approval as “a historic milestone” and “a significant breakthrough,” noting that the airline’s emergence highlights the growing role of women in an industry long dominated by men.

Najomo praised the persistence of the airline’s founder, Aishatu Binani Dahiru and her team, stating that their “determination and consistency in addressing every requirement and obstacle” enabled them to scale the stringent certification hurdles.

He stressed, however, that securing an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) is only the first step.

The NCAA boss cautioned that the real test lies in sustaining global safety standards, warning that “there is no room for shortcuts in this industry,” and urging the airline to remain disciplined in operations and compliance.

Responding, Binani described the certification journey as “challenging and rewarding,” while thanking the NCAA for its professionalism and guidance.

She also credited President Bola Tinubu and Aviation Minister, Festus Keyamo, for fostering policies that enabled the airline’s success.

With its entry, Binani Air is poised to expand travel options, deepen competition, and inspire more female participation in Nigeria’s aviation industry.
