United Nigeria Airlines has confirmed a second bird strike in less than 24 hours, forcing another Airbus A320 out of service and disrupting scheduled flights across its network.
The latest incident occurred on Sunday, February 15, 2026, during the take-off of Flight UN0519 from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, to Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

According to the airline, the bird strike affected one of the aircraft’s engines shortly after departure procedures commenced.
In a statement, the airline said: “In line with our strict and uncompromising safety standards, the affected aircraft has been withdrawn from service for comprehensive technical inspections before returning to operations.”
This development brings to two the number of Airbus aircraft grounded within 24 hours, and the fourth bird strike recorded by the carrier since January 2026.
The airline warned that the withdrawals would disrupt some flights, which “may not operate as earlier scheduled.”
Describing the situation as “another bird strike too many,” the airline apologised for the inconvenience caused to passengers.
“We sincerely apologise for any inconveniences this unforeseen development may cause to your travel plans and kindly seek the understanding and patience of our valued passengers and the general public,” the statement added.
United Nigeria Airlines assured customers that its team is working diligently to minimise disruptions and support affected travellers, reiterating its commitment to the highest safety standards.
