Ekiti State’s aviation and economic landscape took a historic leap forward as the state’s Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport in Ado-Ekiti welcomed Air Peace’s Boeing 737-400, one of the largest aircraft in the airline’s fleet.
The special, non-scheduled flight, brought the airline’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Allen Onyema, on an official visit to the state, a development that highlights growing confidence in the viability of the airport and its potential to drive economic transformation.
The arrival of the 120-passenger capacity aircraft marked a significant moment for the newly established airport, which is poised to become a strategic gateway for business, trade, and investment in the region.
Designed to support both passenger and cargo operations, the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport is expected to serve as a major hub for agricultural exports, commerce, and enhanced connectivity, positioning Ekiti State as a key player in Nigeria’s aviation and logistics sectors.
Air Peace’s decision to operate a flight into the airport further validated its capability to handle large commercial aircraft, reinforcing its readiness for full-scale operations.
The successful landing signaled an endorsement of the state’s commitment to building world-class aviation infrastructure that will facilitate trade, boost tourism, and attract investment to Ekiti.
Speaking on the significance of the visit, Dr. Allen Onyema expressed optimism about the future of aviation in Ekiti State, commending the government’s vision for economic expansion through air transport.
He noted that the strategic location of the airport and its potential for agro-allied logistics could make it a crucial hub for the movement of goods and services, not only within Nigeria but also for export markets.
Onyema also reaffirmed Air Peace’s dedication to supporting regional connectivity and fostering economic growth by exploring opportunities to integrate the new airport into the airline’s expanding domestic network.
The Ekiti State government, under the leadership of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, has prioritised the development of the aviation sector as a catalyst for economic prosperity.
With a strong focus on leveraging air transport for agricultural export and industrial expansion, the government remains committed to ensuring the airport operates at full capacity, attracting major airlines and investors.
The governor has consistently emphasised the role of the aviation industry in enhancing Ekiti’s economic competitiveness, creating employment opportunities, and driving infrastructure development.
According to stakeholders, the arrival of Air Peace’s Boeing 737-400 at the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport represents a defining moment in the state’s aviation journey.
It sets the stage for increased airline operations, expanded cargo services, and strengthened business partnerships, all of which will contribute to the long-term economic transformation of Ekiti State.
The milestone, they noted, is not just a testament to the state’s growing aviation sector but also a bold statement of intent that Ekiti is ready to take its place as a critical player in Nigeria’s evolving air transport industry.
