The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has urged aviation unions to embrace constructive dialogue in addressing industry concerns, following a 14-day ultimatum reportedly issued by the unions over airport concessions and salary reviews.
Reacting to a publication by Sahara Reporters, FAAN, through Mrs. Obiageli Orah, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, clarified the situation, emphasising that steps were already being taken to address the concerns raised by the unions during their Workers’ Congress on February 25, 2025.
The key issues included the non-inclusion of union representatives in the ongoing airport concession deliberations and delays in implementing the negotiated consequential adjustment of the New Minimum Wage.
These concerns were formally presented to Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, during an interactive session with aviation unions on February 28, 2025, in Lagos.
In response, Keyamo directed the immediate inclusion of union representatives in the concession committee to enhance transparency.
He stressed that unions must have full access to relevant information regarding the concession process as it progresses.
Additionally, he assured workers that he would intervene to fast-track the implementation of the long-awaited salary review for FAAN staff.
FAAN reaffirmed its commitment to upholding its core values while fostering a harmonious working relationship with aviation unions.
The authority emphasized that constructive engagement remains the most effective approach to resolving industrial matters.
“FAAN remains dedicated to ensuring smooth operations and delivering world-class services at Nigeria’s airports,” said Mrs. Obiageli Orah, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection.
The agency also reassured the flying public that it remains committed to maintaining safety, efficiency, and global best practices in airport operations.
