The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has commenced a two-day Board Retreat themed “Future-Proofing FAAN: Leadership, Modernisation and Strategic Renewal.”

The event highlights FAAN’s dedication to strengthening governance, enhancing institutional capacity, and positioning Nigeria’s airports for global competitiveness.

The retreat convened a distinguished assembly of leaders, including FAAN Board Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Board Members, Executive Directors, and management staff from across the Authority.

Representing the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, was the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Yakubu Adam Kafarmata.

Also in attendance were Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation, and Festus Akingbaso, Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Aviation, standing in for the Committee Chairman.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Ganduje commended FAAN for organising the retreat and expressed confidence that the deliberations would be both rewarding and impactful for the Authority’s future.

The Permanent Secretary, representing the Minister, added: “May your deliberations be productive, and your outcomes transformative for FAAN, for the aviation sector, and for Nigeria.”

The retreat provides a vital platform to deepen synergy between the Board and Management, strengthen governance structures, clarify strategic direction, and review FAAN’s operational, infrastructural and financial landscape.

It also aims to chart a roadmap for modernisation, innovation, efficiency, and long-term sustainability while aligning FAAN’s priorities with ministerial directives and national aviation development goals.

FAAN Managing Director and Chief ExecutiveOfficer, Mrs. Olubunmi Oluwaseun Kuku, emphasised that the retreat presents an opportunity to reflect on the Authority’s achievements, reassess its challenges, and envision a modern, responsive, and globally competitive airport system for Nigeria.

The combined presence of the Board, the Ministry, and National Assembly representatives highlights a unified commitment to driving reforms, enhancing institutional resilience, and delivering service excellence across all FAAN airports.

The outcomes of the retreat are expected to yield actionable resolutions and a strategic roadmap that will propel FAAN further along its journey of leadership, operational excellence, and modernisation, ensuring Nigeria’s airports meet international standards and passenger expectations.
