The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has joined global aviation leaders at the 2025 ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS) in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) engaging in critical discussions on aviation safety, infrastructure development and regulatory advancements to strengthen Nigeria’s air transport sector.

Taking place from February 10 to 12, 2025, this year’s symposium themed, “The Next Flight: Innovating for a Sustainable Tomorrow,” addresses critical issues facing the aviation industry and serves as a platform for global stakeholders to collaborate and share best practices.

According to Mrs Obiageli Orah, the Director, Public Affairs & Consumer Protection, FAAN’s delegation, led by Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, Managing Director and Chief Executive, is engaging in discussions on key themes, including balancing aviation growth with sustainability, leveraging AI to enhance airport operations and training, and strengthening implementation support for resource-constrained states.

She added that the FAAN delegation is also participating in key sessions on the digital transformation of aviation training, exploring innovative strategies to enhance learning experiences and drive a more sustainable future for the industry.

On Day Two of the symposium, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku proudly received the TRAINAIR PLUS member plaque on behalf of FAAN, signifying the authority’s commitment to global aviation training standards.

She also signed the FAAN-ICAO TRAINAIR PLUS Manuals, accompanied by Dr. Emiola Luqman, FAAN’s Director of Human Resources and Administration, and Mrs. Toyin Akinlade, Acting General Manager of Training.

The milestone highlights FAAN’s dedication to excellence in capacity building and operational efficiency. Also part of the delegation is Captain Abdullahi Mahmood, FAAN’s Director of Airport Operations, further reinforcing the agency’s commitment to global best practices in aviation management.

The GISS provides an invaluable opportunity for FAAN to connect with global leaders and gain insights into the latest advancements and challenges in the aviation sector.

Mrs. Kuku expressed, “We are particularly interested in exploring the role of AI in revolutionizing both airport operations and training and how FAAN can effectively integrate these technologies to enhance efficiency and sustainability at our airports.”

The FAAN’s Spokesperson concluded that FAAN’s participation in the ICAO GISS flaunts its commitment to remaining at the forefront of aviation best practices and delivering world-class airport services.

“The knowledge and insights gained from this symposium will be instrumental in shaping FAAN’s future strategies and initiatives”, she added.
