The Managing Director of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, has made history by being elected Vice President of Airport Council International (ACI) Africa and becoming a permanent member of the ACI World Governing Board.

The announcement was ratified during the 34th ACI Africa General Assembly in Lusaka, Zambia and marked a major milestone for both Nigeria and the broader African aviation sector.

With 56 member states, ACI Africa champions the continent’s aviation interests, while the ACI World Governing Board oversees around 2,100 airports globally, encompassing 814 members in 169 countries.

In her new role, Mrs. Kuku will lead efforts to enhance airport safety, elevate passenger experience, and expand connectivity across Africa.

“Being elected as Vice President of ACI Africa is an incredible honor, one that I do not take lightly. I am committed to collaborating with my colleagues to ensure that our airports not only meet international standards for safety and efficiency but also serve as critical drivers of economic growth and connectivity for our nations”, she said.

Under her leadership, Nigerian airports have undergone transformative upgrades, including significant infrastructure improvements and strategic repositioning.

Kuku’s deep expertise in aviation and finance positions her to tackle pressing challenges such as sustainable development, compliance with international safety standards and innovation in airport operations.

Her visionary management has been widely recognised, earning multiple awards and establishing her as a leading force in raising aviation standards across Africa.

Through her initiatives, Nigerian airports have seen measurable improvements in operational efficiency, service quality, and strategic planning.

Kuku said she is committed to shaping a future where Africa’s airports are safer, more efficient, and globally competitive. Her leadership is set to drive lasting growth for Nigeria’s aviation sector and strengthen Africa’s presence on the world aviation stage.
