Plateau State may soon witness exponential growth as the Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN),Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, has pledged robust support to the State in its quest to become a premier hub for agricultural products.
This initiative according to her aims to bolster Nigeria’s economy through the strategic use of airline cargo. Mrs. Kuku made these remarks during a visit to Yakubu Gowon Airport in Jos, where she received the Governor of Plateau State, Mr. Caleb Mutfwang.
Accompanied by senior management staff, Mrs. Kuku highlighted the significant agricultural potential of Plateau State, which boasts a wealth of agrarian products suitable for both local and international markets.
She expressed FAAN’s readiness to collaborate with the state government to establish a dedicated cargo terminal.
However, she emphasized that the state should not delay leveraging its agricultural assets pending the development of major infrastructure.
“Your Excellency, Plateau State is well-positioned to emerge as a leading producer and transporter of agricultural products in Nigeria.
“My team and I are eager to closely cooperate with you and the broader aviation cargo team. While substantial infrastructure is essential, we need not wait to begin. I propose a modular approach—starting within our immediate capabilities.
“We can begin by marketing perishable goods and organizing market days that attract buyers from across the nation.
“This initiative will encourage investments in testing, packaging, crating, storing, and transporting agricultural produce throughout the country. The potential is vast,”Mrs. Kuku remarked.
Governor Mutfwang expressed his gratitude to Mrs. Kuku for FAAN’s proactive approach towards the cargo business and affirmed his commitment to realizing the state’s agricultural ambitions.
During her visit, Mrs. Kuku toured the facilities at Jos Airport and engaged constructively with the staff, reinforcing FAAN’s dedication to enhancing the airport’s operations and services.
This visit underscores FAAN’s strategic focus on harnessing Nigeria’s agricultural potential through enhanced air cargo capabilities, aligning with the broader goal of economic diversification and growth.
