Following the shocking tragedy of a pregnant woman found murdered near Sam Mbakwe Airport in Owerri, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has launched a probe into the incident to get to the bottom of the horror.
FAAN, in a statement by its Spokesperson, Mrs Obiageli Orah, the lifeless body of the deceased, Mrs. Chinwendu Amadi, was found on October 18, 2024 and quickly clarified that the incident did not take place within the airport’s grounds.
She noted that the grim discovery was made by a group of youths from the nearby Awaogwu Logara village, who were searching for a missing member of their community.
Their efforts led them to the Runway 17 area, where they found Mrs. Amadi’s lifeless body, marked by multiple stab wounds to the abdomen.
Investigators observed no signs of struggle or blood at the scene, suggesting that she may have been killed elsewhere.
According to the statement, FAAN’s Chief Security Officer acted swiftly, alerting all airport security personnel, including the Airport Commandant and Divisional Police Officer (DPO).
A police team from the Umuneke Division, led by Inspector Vincent N., quickly arrived to conduct an investigation.
The body has been removed for further examination, and authorities are diligently working to piece together the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking event.
FAAN night guards reported no unusual activity in the area prior to the discovery, leaving the community and investigators seeking answers.
FAAN has urged anyone with information related to the case to come forward, emphasizing the critical role of public cooperation in achieving justice.
“This despicable act must be condemned, and the individuals responsible must face the law,” FAAN stated, calling for community vigilance and support in the investigation.
As the investigation unfolds, the local community is grieving the loss of Mrs. Amadi, and authorities are committed to uncovering the truth behind this tragic incident.
Stakeholders insist that the emphasis remains on collaboration between law enforcement and community members to ensure justice is served for the victim and her family.
