The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has reiterated its strong commitment to maintaining safety as the cornerstone of its operations, even as it pledged to deepen collaboration and communication across the aviation sector to strengthen Nigeria’s safety culture.

Speaking at the Executive Session of the 2025 FAAN Safety Week held at the Lagos Marriott Hotel, the General Manager, Safety Services, emphasized that safety remains the heartbeat of FAAN’s operations.

“Safety is not just a policy or regulation in FAAN; it is our foremost value. It defines our culture, shapes our operations, and sustains public trust in our airports”, the GM declared.

Themed: “Navigating Conflict for a Safer Aviation in Nigeria,” the 2025 Safety Week focused on how collaboration and communication can turn challenges and institutional conflicts into opportunities for unity and operational excellence.

“Even in moments of conflict or challenge. We can find pathways that reinforce unity, accountability, and excellence in our aviation ecosystem”, the safety chief noted.

Highlighting the agency’s achievements, the General Manager said FAAN has recorded notable progress in its Safety Management System (SMS) through strict adherence to national and international standards, continuous audits, and improved safety reporting systems.

“These milestones reflect the dedication of our workforce, with our Managing Director, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, leading from the front,” he added.

The event, attended by key aviation stakeholders, including representatives from the National Assembly, NCAA, NAMA, airline CEOs, and safety professionals, marked the grand finale of a week devoted to reflection, learning, and renewed commitment to safety improvement.

The General Manager further urged all stakeholders to sustain the momentum beyond Safety Week, stressing that safety excellence is achieved through daily discipline and vigilance.

“Every risk identified, every unsafe act corrected, and every standard upheld contributes to preventing incidents and accidents. Let us renew our pledge to uphold vigilance and continuous improvement”, he added.

He expressed gratitude to FAAN’s leadership, partners, and stakeholders for their “unwavering support in advancing aviation safety,” assuring that the Authority will continue to strengthen its systems and maintain its reputation as a model of safety excellence across the continent.
