To ensure quicker response and better coordination during emergencies, a full-scale security drill was conducted on Thursday at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.
The emergency exercise was a bomb threat simulation carried out to gauge the reflexes of the personnel at the airport in handling emergencies.
Abdullahi Yakubu-Funtua, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection made the disclosure in a statement.
He said the drill involved the military bomb squad, Police, AVSEC personnel, Fire fighters, Medical personnel, ground handling companies, NCAA, NAMA, Airforce, Team FAAN, and all other agencies who responded swiftly to the threat.
He added that the exercise took place during the check-in of Ethiopian Airlines departing passengers.
“Evacuation of passengers from the hall was carried out successfully. The exercise was conducted at the baggage hall of International Terminal 1”, he added.
Yakubu-Funtua noted that prior to the drill, passengers and other airport users were advised not to panic since there were no genuine reasons to be alarmed or terrified.
