The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a N3 billion for the supply and installation of customised explosive and narcotic detection screening systems at five international airports in Nigeria.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo made the disclosure while briefing State House correspondents in Abuja.
The beneficiary airports are; Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport in Abuja, Murtala Muhammad International Airport in Lagos, Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, as well as two others in Enugu and Port Harcourt.
The minister emphasized that the advanced screening systems would eliminate the need for manual checks on travelers’ bags, preventing disruptions to the organization of their luggage contents.
Additionally, FEC approved the signing of a bilateral air service agreement with the Republic of Guyana, a South American nation.
According to Mr. Keyamo, this agreement is anticipated to establish direct routes to South American countries, fostering the growth of trade activities.
