Green Africa Airlines has achieved a major milestone with the acquisition of its first owned aircraft.
The feat represents a strong step in the airline’s growth and operational expansion.
The aircraft, an ATR 72-500 bearing manufacturer’s serial number 852 and registration mark 5N-GAB, is set to commence operations following customary regulatory approvals, reinforcing the airline’s commitment to providing safe, affordable, and reliable air travel.
The acquisition was made possible through a naira-denominated debt facility provided by Access Bank, one of Nigeria’s largest and most influential financial institutions.
This strategic financing underscores Access Bank’s commitment to supporting promising enterprises that are redefining their industries and driving positive economic impact.
Expressing his enthusiasm about the development, Babawande Afolabi, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Green Africa, stated: “We are pleased to acquire our very first aircraft, another significant milestone for Green Africa.
This incoming aircraft will be pivotal as we thoughtfully navigate the next phase of our journey to bring safe, affordable, and reliable air travel to a broader group of customers in the region.”
Roosevelt Ogbonna, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Access Bank, reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to empowering high-growth enterprises.
He remarked: “As one of the largest and leading financial institutions on the continent, we at Access Bank take special pride in supporting young businesses that have the potential to redefine their industries and act as major catalysts for positive impact in their local market and on the continent at large.
“We are impressed with the Green Africa story and excited about the brand’s future trajectory. We are delighted to support the acquisition of Green Africa’s very first owned aircraft.”
Launched in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Green Africa commenced revenue operations in 2021, navigating a challenging business environment to establish itself as a key player in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
The airline has since built a strong reputation for affordability and punctuality, solidifying its position as one of the most reliable carriers in the domestic market.
With this latest acquisition, Green Africa has assured of further enhancing its operational capabilities and expand its reach, offering greater connectivity and reinforcing its vision of making air travel more accessible across Nigeria and beyond.
