Green Africa has strengthened its push for scale and sustainability with the acquisition of its second owned aircraft.
This marks another milestone for the Lagos-based value airline as it expands capacity across its domestic network.
The aircraft, an ATR 72-600 with manufacturer’s serial number 1064 and registration mark 5N-GAC, is expected to join commercial operations shortly, subject to standard regulatory approvals.

Its addition will increase seat availability on Green Africa’s existing routes and support more efficient service delivery as demand for domestic air travel continues to rise.
The acquisition was partly financed through a naira-denominated debt facility from Access Bank, extending an asset financing partnership that also supported the airline’s first owned aircraft.
The deal reflects growing confidence from local financial institutions in aviation asset ownership and long-term fleet development.
Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Green Africa, Babawande Afolabi, said the aircraft strengthens the airline’s long-term growth platform.
“We are delighted to welcome our second owned aircraft (5N-GAC) to the fleet,” Afolabi said.
“The addition of 5N-GAC will help strengthen a sustainable foundation for Green Africa to grow and deliver on its promise to provide safe, reliable, and affordable air travel to a broader group of customers in the country and across the continent at scale.”
Access Bank described the transaction as part of its broader commitment to supporting enterprises that drive economic progress.
According to its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Roosevelt Ogbonna, the bank’s continued backing of Green Africa is rooted in performance and shared long-term vision.
“At Access Bank, we are committed to empowering businesses that drive economic progress and create long-term value for society,” Ogbonna said.
“Our partnership with Green Africa reflects our confidence in visionary enterprises that are transforming critical sectors of the economy.”
He added that the successful performance of Green Africa’s first owned aircraft informed the bank’s decision to deepen the partnership.
“We are proud to extend our support for this second aircraft, which will further enhance capacity and accelerate growth,” Ogbonna said.
With the latest addition, Green Africa said it is cementing its strategy of local asset ownership while laying the groundwork for steady expansion in Nigeria’s competitive aviation market.
