The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), in partnership with the FAAN Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU), led a rigorous anti-corruption seminar at Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan.
The seminar, held on July 19, 2024, at the Firebay, aimed to address and combat corruption within the airport’s operations.
The session began with engaging preparatory exercises, culminating in a keynote lecture titled “Corruption is a Virus,” which outlined effective strategies for eradicating corruption in both the workplace and broader environment.
Dr. Mrs. Njideka Nwobu, representing ICPC within the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), provided an in-depth presentation on the nature of corruption, illustrated with real-world examples.
She discussed the “Seven Deadly Sins” of corruption, social factors driving corrupt behavior, and actionable steps to foster a corruption-free workplace.
A key segment of the seminar focused on “Integrity: My Watchword.” Dr. Nwobu elaborated on the concept of integrity, its crucial role in professional settings, and the traits of truly ethical individuals.
Attendees were provided with practical steps for enhancing workplace integrity, detailed in distributed handbooks.
Participants were required to complete a test to assess their grasp of anti-corruption principles, reinforcing the seminar’s key messages.
Additionally, staff were invited to submit anonymous complaints and concerns about airport operations via a designated form, with all submissions to be reviewed by ICPC headquarters.
The seminar highlights ICPC’s ongoing commitment to promoting ethical standards and fostering a corruption-free environment within Nigerian governmental institutions.
