The dream of becoming an aviation professional is now within reach for 160 young Nigerians as the Isaac Balami Foundation officially launches its tuition-free aviation scholarship program under the Isaac Balami Foundation Youth Empowerment Scheme (iYES).

The programme, which began on February 3, 2025, is a bold step toward empowering aspiring aviators with the training and skills needed to thrive in the industry.

The journey kicked off with an orientation at Aviatrix Hub, followed by an excursion to 7-star Global Hangar, a key funding partner of the initiative and the brainchild of the Foundation’s President, Engr. Isaac Balami.

Participants also visited the proposed site of the Isaac Balami University of Aeronautics and Management (IBUAM), where they met with industry leaders and partners committed to supporting their dreams.
Engineer Balami, addressing the beneficiaries, urged them to embrace the opportunity with dedication and determination.

“What took some of us 15 to 20 years to achieve, my vision is to help you accomplish in the next five years, if you are determined,” he said.

Emphasising the rigorous training ahead, Mrs. Victoria Adegbe, Accountable Manager at Aviatrix Hub, encouraged students to take their studies seriously.

“We are ready and set to train you. You must study and give your best; there is no room for failure. We are here to prepare you for the future of the aviation industry,” she stated.

Similarly, Engineer Roland Ahmed, Accountable Manager at Leadstream Aviation, highlighted the importance of safety, reminding participants that in aviation, precision and excellence are non-negotiable.

“The speed of an aircraft is nearly as swift as the speed of light. It’s crucial that you take this opportunity seriously and strive for excellence,” he advised.

Welcoming the scholars, Mrs. Obioma Madu Udealor, Executive Director of the Foundation, urged them to recognize the sacrifices made to provide them with this opportunity.

“Welcome to the program! You are already experiencing more than you might have expected. We are providing you with numerous resources and experiences to help you excel in this industry. Please make our efforts count,” she said.

The beneficiaries shared emotional stories of perseverance and gratitude. One participant recalled how he had abandoned his dream of aviation until this opportunity came along.

“I had given up on this dream before I found this opportunity and applied. I received the offer just a day before my birthday.”

Another participant, who traveled from Cross River State, experienced an aircraft up close for the first time.

“Today was the first time I’ve ever been inside an aircraft. This is a dream come true,” he said.

A young woman from Borno State shared how society had dismissed her aviation dreams, but her late father had urged her not to give up.

“I was ready to give up, but my father, on his sickbed, told me not to lose hope. He said help would come—and today, here I am.”

Originally announced by Isaac Balami to commemorate his 40th birthday on August 25, 2024, the scholarship program is a reflection of his unwavering commitment to nurturing talent and expanding access to aviation careers.

The success of this initiative is made possible through the support of dedicated partners, including 7star Global Hangar, 7star Global Airline, Aviatrix Hub, Leadstream Aviation, and Nigeria International Airshow.

Their contributions are shaping the future of aviation in Nigeria, opening doors for passionate young professionals ready to soar.
