Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo SAN on Thursday officially commenced the construction of Gusau International Airport, marking a pivotal moment in the first year of Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration in Zamfara State.
The flag-off ceremony, held at the airport site on Kaura Namoda Road in Gusau, drew numerous dignitaries, government officials, and community leaders.
This strategic project aims to enhance the state’s infrastructure, stimulate economic growth, and improve connectivity within Nigeria and internationally.
In his address, Minister Keyamo highlighted the regional significance of the Gusau International Airport project.
“The construction of Gusau International Airport underscores our commitment to advancing the aviation sector and fostering regional development. This airport will not only improve transportation links but also create job opportunities and stimulate economic activities in Zamfara State and beyond,” he stated.
Governor Dauda Lawal expressed his gratitude to the Federal Government for its support and underscored the transformative potential of the project.
“This airport is a vital component of our development agenda. It will facilitate trade, attract investment, and significantly contribute to the socio-economic advancement of our state. We are determined to see this project through to completion and deeply appreciate the Honourable Minister’s dedication to this cause,” said the Governor.
The Gusau International Airport is expected to be completed within the next few years, featuring state-of-the-art facilities designed to accommodate both passenger and cargo flights. This initiative is part of a broader plan to modernize Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure, ensuring safer and more efficient air travel.
The ceremony concluded with a symbolic groundbreaking, officially marking the commencement of construction.
