As the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) rolls out the drums to celebrate its 25th anniversary, airlines, government agencies, ministries, departments and other stakeholders have lauded the Authority for being one of the most effective and safety-driven aviation regulators in the world.
They also acknowledged the remarkable transformation under the aviation industry in general under the leadership of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace, Festus Keyamo.
Speaking at the NCAA’s Silver Jubilee ball in Abuja on February 15, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo, reflected on the journey since NCAA’s establishment in 1999 and operational commencement in 2000, praising it for slowly but steadily transitioning into a globally respected aviation regulator.
The minister highlighted key advancements over the years, including enhanced supervisory measures, improved safety oversight, airport development and certification and the rise of indigenous airlines.
He attributed the strides to the collaborative efforts of past administrations, aviation agencies, industry stakeholders and international partners.
The Minister also noted that the aviation sector, without a doubt, remains a pillar of national development, facilitating trade, tourism, investment and cultural exchange.
“Whilst it is yet to realise its true potential in terms of contribution to our nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), we must renew our commitment to ensuring a more progressive, sustainable, inclusive, innovative and prosperous aviation industry.
“This necessitates the continuous adoption and integration of emerging technologies, enhancing infrastructure, and investing in human capital development to keep our skies safer, secure and air transportation services cohesive and efficient.
“In essence, I encourage you all not to rest on your laurels, you must remember that the reward for hard work is indeed more work” Keyamo told the grand gathering.
The event was also a platform to recognize distinguished achievers in the industry.
“Tonight affords us the opportunity to recognize and honour some of those visionaries, past and present, who have contributed tirelessly to building an aviation industry that meets and exceeds global standards. The awards to be presented this evening symbolize excellence, dedication and an unwavering spirit of Public Service.
“To all the awardees, your hard work hasn’t gone unnoticed. I hope this will serve as a constant reminder and motivation to others to continue to strive for greater achievements in the interest of the overall public. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all the recipients”, the Minister added.
In his remarks at the event, the Chairman of Air Peace, Mr Allen Onyema who was represented by Hawau Alege, the airline’s Communication Analyst, insisted that the regulator has played a crucial role in maintaining Nigeria’s excellent aviation safety records. He particularly commended the Director General of the NCAA, Captain Chris Najomo, for his leadership in ensuring regulatory compliance without compromising efficiency.
He said: “Unlike other parts of the world, including Europe, America, and Asia, the NCAA’s oversight is both thorough and uniquely safety-centric. This focus on safety has directly influenced the excellent safety records of Nigerian airlines. We have every reason to be proud of the NCAA; it is, indeed, one of the best in the world.
“Under the leadership of Festus Keyamo, we have witnessed a transformative period in the aviation sector. His unwavering commitment, dedication, and innovative approach have brought about significant progress. From the aviation policies to the infrastructural developments, the sector is experiencing a remarkable revolution.
“This transformation would not have been possible without the steadfast support and dedication of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority. Under the capable leadership of Captain Chris Najomo, the NCAA has achieved tremendous milestones. They have streamlined processes, improved the ease of doing business in the sector, all while upholding the highest safety standards.
“At Air Peace, we wholeheartedly support and align with this revolution. We commend both the NCAA and the Honorable Minister of Aviation, and we extend our heartfelt congratulations to all who have been part of this incredible journey”, he stated.
He added that under the stewardship of Festus Keyamo, the aviation sector has seen significant advancements in policy implementation and infrastructural development, setting the stage for a new era of operational excellence.
He added that airlines operating in the country have, for the first time in two decades, collectively acknowledged the far-reaching reforms that have improved the ease of doing business in the sector.
