The House Committee on Aviation Technology has commended the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, for its fundamental role in developing Nigeria’s aviation workforce.
The Chairman of the Committee, Tajudeen Kareem Abisodun lauded the institution when he led members of the committee on an oversight visit and facility tour of the college.
The delegation was warmly received by the Rector and Chief Executive, Dr. Danjuma Ismaila, alongside the college’s management team.
In a comprehensive briefing, Dr. Ismaila highlighted NCAT’s strategic importance as a leading institution responsible for producing a substantial percentage of the country’s aviation professionals.
He expressed gratitude for the support received from the current Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo and previous administrations, noting their roles in the institution’s ongoing success.
Dr. Ismaila also appealed for continued legislative support, particularly in improving the college’s budgetary allocations.
He raised concerns over the low wage structure of NCAT staff, which he described as a major factor driving attrition and the poaching of skilled personnel by better-paying agencies and private operators.
“The poor wage profile of our staff remains a serious concern. It is a major reason for the prevalent attrition and why our well-trained personnel are constantly being poached by sister agencies offering higher remuneration,” the Rector said.
He assured the lawmakers of his administration’s commitment to unlocking the college’s full potential for the benefit of both NCAT and the wider aviation industry.
In his remarks, Hon. Abisodun praised the institution’s contributions to national and global aviation development.
He pledged the committee’s support in addressing NCAT’s critical needs and acknowledged the quality of its facilities and infrastructure.
“We are impressed with what we have seen here today. The College’s contribution to the aviation sector is invaluable, and we are committed to supporting your efforts to overcome current challenges,” the Chairman said.
He further assured that the committee would carefully review the Rector’s presentation to determine key areas for legislative intervention and maintain regular engagement with NCAT’s leadership.
The visit highlighted the importance of sustained government backing for NCAT to retain its position as a world-class aviation training institution and continue to serve as a talent hub for Nigeria’s growing aviation industry.
