Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), the operators of Murtala Mohammed Airport Lagos Terminal Two (MMA2), is set to revolutionise the handling of perishable cargo in Nigeria.
The company, in a statement, said it would introduce the country’s first digital cold storage system at its, aimed at preserving perishable goods with unmatched efficiency.
Remi Jibodu, Head of Aeronautical and Cargo Services at BASL, highlighted the pressing need for such a facility.
“The introduction of a digital cold storage system addresses a significant gap in our cargo handling capabilities.
“Currently, aircraft belly cargo is subject to availability, and when flights are full, there isn’t always enough space to carry all perishable cargoes. This limitation often poses a challenge for businesses that depend on air transport to move their perishable goods,” he said.
The new system according to him is poised to offer a reliable solution for businesses seeking to expand their operations across Nigeria.
“For those hesitant to expand their businesses due to the lack of adequate storage facilities, our digital cold storage provides the assurance they need.
“It allows for the safe storage of perishable products, ensuring they remain fresh and in optimal condition during transit,” Jibodu explained.
He noted that, this initiative is expected to streamline cargo operations at MMA2, thereby enhancing the overall efficiency and reliability of the airport.
“By providing a seamless solution for preserving perishable goods, we anticipate an increase in the number of cargo-related businesses utilizing our facilities. This will not only drive business growth but also contribute to the revenue generation for MMA2,” Jibodu noted.
