Emergency response teams have successfully rescued all personnel trapped during the fire incident at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Control Tower, Lagos, as containment and recovery operations continue.

FAAN confirmed that 14 persons initially trapped were safely evacuated following rapid emergency interventions, including the deployment of a crane to support high-level rescue operations at the Control Tower facility.

According to FAAN, six casualties were recorded, three males and three females, all currently in stable condition. One affected person has been transferred to the FAAN Headquarters Hospital for further medical observation and remains stable.

“Emergency procedures were immediately activated, and we are working closely with all relevant agencies to safeguard lives and critical infrastructure,” FAAN stated.

As a safety precaution, the sixth floor of the affected structure has been fully evacuated to allow emergency teams to conduct risk assessments and continue firefighting operations without obstruction.

Preliminary investigations by fire service officials indicate that the fire likely originated from the server room on the first floor of Terminal 1 at the MMIA. Authorities said the blaze within the departure hall is now largely under control, though monitoring continues to prevent possible spread to adjacent sections.

The Nigerian airspace remains temporarily closed as NAMA works to establish a temporary Control Tower to support safe resumption of flight operations.

Officials assured the public that coordinated efforts are ongoing to restore normal airport services as quickly as safety allows.

“We are committed to protecting lives, maintaining operational integrity, and ensuring that full safety standards are upheld before normal operations resume,” FAAN added.

Further verified updates will be released as more information becomes available.
