In appreciation of his developmental leadership, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Engineer Farouk Ahmed Umar, has been conferred with a prestigious fellowship award by Better Nigeria in Practice of Good Conduct, a forum spearheaded by Observers Watch to promote ethical leadership across public and private sectors in Nigeria.

This was disclosed by Abdullahi Musa, Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection of NAMA.

The honour was presented at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja during the 2025 International Workers’ Day celebrations, an event that brought together high-ranking government officials, civil society leaders, and members of the public to celebrate individuals and institutions championing transparency, accountability, and national progress.

According to the organisers, the award was in recognition of Engr. Farouk’s “exceptional leadership, integrity, and commitment to ethical governance in public service.”

The citation highlighted his role in transforming Nigeria’s air navigation architecture and raising professional standards across the agency.

“Under his stewardship, NAMA has witnessed significant operational improvements, enhanced safety protocols, and the implementation of cutting-edge air traffic management technologies, all achieved with a strong ethical foundation,” it stated.

Receiving the award, Engr. Farouk expressed deep appreciation for the recognition, dedicating it to the staff of NAMA.

“This award is a testament to the fact that integrity still counts in public service. It will inspire us to continue to deliver on our statutory mandate with diligence, transparency, and a deep sense of national duty,” he said.

“I dedicate this recognition to the hardworking staff of NAMA.”

The Better Nigeria in Practice of Good Conduct fellowship is awarded annually to Nigerians whose leadership exemplifies character, professionalism, and a vision for national development.

Engineer Farouk’s recognition, observers say, is a reflection of the growing demand for values-driven leadership within Nigeria’s governance space.
