The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) celebrated one year of transformative leadership under its Managing Director, Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar, with a grand “Staff Recognition Dinner for Impactful Leadership and Team Excellence” at the Obudu Gardens of the Abuja Continental Hotel.
The event highlighted NAMA’s significant milestones over the past year while honouring outstanding staff members for their dedication and contributions.
Dubbed the “Hardworking Staff Recognition Award Night,” the occasion went beyond a simple gesture of appreciation. It provided an avenue to spotlight the exceptional efforts of NAMA staff, who were commended for their diligence, commitment, and critical roles in driving the agency’s successes.
In his address, Engr. Farouk highlighted the importance of recognizing excellence within the agency, stating:
“The awards being presented tonight are not just plaques or certificates; they represent our appreciation for hard work, commitment, and the kind of excellence that drives NAMA forward. To the recipients, I say congratulations! This recognition is not just a reward but a reminder that your efforts do not go unnoticed. Let this achievement inspire you to even greater contributions. And to every other staff member, let these awards serve as a challenge — because next year, it could be any of you here.”
Reflecting on NAMA’s achievements over the past year, Engr. Farouk highlighted several key milestones: Enhanced Safety: A significant reduction in Air Safety Reports, achieved through strict adherence to ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices, showcasing improved operational safety and efficiency.
Infrastructure Development: Refurbishment of control towers in seven major airports, including Owerri, Sokoto, and Ibadan, with plans underway to extend these upgrades to six additional airports.
Capacity Building: Investment in both local and international training programs for air traffic controllers, engineers, and other personnel to align with global best practices.
Energy Efficiency: Upgrades to solar-powered systems, reducing operational costs and ensuring reliable energy supply to critical facilities.
ISO 9001 Certification: Achieved in December 2024, affirming NAMA’s commitment to quality management, safety, and continuous improvement.
Staff Welfare: Clearance of outstanding allowances and implementation of measures to ensure the timely payment of staff dues and entitlements.
“Milestones like these don’t happen in isolation,” Engr. Farouk remarked, applauding the dedication of his management team and staff in achieving these successes.
Speaking on behalf of the directors, Abba Ahmad, mni, Director of Special Duty, and Dr. Abdullahi Musa, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, praised Engr. Farouk’s visionary leadership.
They commended his transformative impact on NAMA and passed a vote of confidence while pledging continued support for his administration.
The evening featured a lively lineup of activities, including games with exciting prizes, karaoke performances, and dancing, fostering a celebratory atmosphere. Staff expressed their gratitude and shared their prayers for even greater accomplishments in the coming years.
Appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on December 13, 2023, Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar continues to lead NAMA with a clear vision and an unwavering commitment to operational excellence.
