The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), under the leadership of its Managing Director, Engineer Farouk Ahmed Umar, has celebrated a series of historic achievements, reflecting its commitment to excellence in airspace management.

The Special Adviser Media to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Tunde Moshood, disclosed this in a statement.

He stated that at a special ceremony in Abuja, the Managing Director, alongside top management staff, presented the esteemed ISO 9001 certification to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo.

The NAMA boss noted that the certification was a significant recognition of NAMA’s adherence to global best practices through its Quality Management System.

Accepting the certification, the Minister described it as “a perfect end-of-year gift”.

The milestone according to Moshood marks the culmination of an eight-year transformation process that began in 2016, following an International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) audit which highlighted key gaps in airspace management.

He noted that, through focused reforms, NAMA secured ISO 9001 certification in December 2024, accentuating its compliance with global standards for safety, efficiency, and the management of Communication, Navigation, and Surveillance (CNS) infrastructure.

The certification also extends to Nigeria’s five major airports, reaffirming NAMA’s dedication to operational excellence and capacity building.

Adding to its accolades, NAMA received the Award of Excellence for Quality Service Delivery from the SERVICOM Presidency, marking its recognition as one of Nigeria’s top-performing service delivery agencies.

Moshood said the historic honour is particularly significant as it is the first time NAMA has been acknowledged since the establishment of its SERVICOM department in 2004.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister emphasized NAMA’s critical role in public service delivery, stating,
“NAMA’s achievements bridge the gap between government and citizens, setting a new standard for exceptional service delivery.”

Engineer Farouk Ahmed Umar, joined by senior members of his team, including Ndubuisi Lotenna Nmoneme (Director of Finance and Accounts), Dr. Abdullahi Musa (Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection), and Mr. Haske Jibrin (Senior Special Adviser to the MD), expressed appreciation for the recognition.

He reiterated NAMA’s unwavering commitment to maintaining world-class standards, remarking,

“These accomplishments are a testament to our team’s dedication to ensuring Nigeria’s airspace remains safe, efficient, and globally competitive.”

The dual achievements—ISO 9001 certification and the SERVICOM Award—signal a new era for Nigeria’s aviation sector. They position NAMA as a leader in airspace management across Africa and beyond, reflecting the agency’s commitment to safety, operational efficiency, and customer-focused service delivery.

Keyamo commended NAMA’s leadership for its transformative impact and assured continued government support to strengthen the aviation sector.

“This success is the result of vision, hard work, and collaboration. NAMA’s strides inspire confidence in Nigeria’s potential as a global leader in aviation,” he said.
