A team from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), led by Mal. Ismaila Tanko, Director of Monotechnic Programmes, recently concluded an advisory and resource inspection visit at the Nigerian Meteorological Agency’s (NiMet) training facilities in Oshodi, Lagos.
The inspection, conducted from July 25th to 27th, 2024, was a crucial step towards accrediting the proposed National Diploma (ND) programmes in Meteorology and Climate Change Sciences at NiMet’s WMO Regional Training Centre.
The NBTE team meticulously reviewed the centre’s extensive facilities, including the library, classrooms, student hostels, medical clinic, weather equipment, weather station, agricultural facilities, equipment fabrication and furniture workshops, printing section, GIS and ICT facilities, staffing, and other critical resources.
During the briefing session, Mal. Ismaila Tanko, along with Dr. Kubura Jauro, Deputy Director of the Specialized Division, and Mr. Nsan Tiku Nsan, Deputy Director of the Monotechnic Support Division, expressed their satisfaction with the cooperation from NiMet officials.
Professor Peter Odjugo, Director of Research and Training, represented NiMet’s DG/CEO, Professor Charles Anosike, during this session.
Tanko assured that the inspection results would be promptly communicated to NiMet management.

He emphasized the importance of these programs in addressing the sector’s skill shortages and aligning with the aviation sector agenda set by Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development. Prof.
Anosike highlighted that NiMet’s efforts contribute to human capacity development, compliance with safety regulations, and the continuous improvement of Nigeria’s ICAO rating.
