The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has hosted the sixth meeting of the Steering Committee for the Cooperative Development of Aeronautical Meteorology Services Project in the Africa-Indian Ocean (AFI) Region, known as CODEVMET-AFI.

The three-day session, convened under the auspices of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), opened on October 6 and runs through October 8 in Abuja.

In his keynote address, Director-General of Civil Aviation, Captain Chris Najomo, represented by the Director of Aerodrome and Airspace Standards, Engineer Godwin Balang, praised ICAO’s steadfast commitment to improving aeronautical meteorological services across Africa.

“This initiative is pivotal to enhancing aviation safety and efficiency across the AFI Region,” he said and expressed confidence that the project would further strengthen meteorological service delivery.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders from the NCAA, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), ICAO’s Western and Central African (WACAF) and Eastern and Southern African (ESAF) offices, as well as Civil Aviation Authorities from Togo, Kenya, Senegal, Angola, Côte d’Ivoire, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, and representatives from ASECNA and Senegal’s National Civil Aviation Agency.

The session aims to deepen collaboration, share best practices, and advance regional strategies for improved weather and flight safety systems.
