The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Prof. Charles Anosike, has called on the agency’s staff to commit to ethical conduct in their professional duties.
Professor Anosike made this appeal on Tuesday, 16th July 2024, during the launch of NiMet’s Anti-Corruption and Bribery Policy and Code of Ethics.
Anosike emphasized, “The principles of ethics, integrity, and accountability are the bedrock of any successful organization.
They underpin the credibility and effectiveness of a meteorological agency.
Upholding these values builds trust with our clients and stakeholders and ensures NiMet fulfills its mandate, contributing to national socio-economic development and the safety of lives and property.”
Welcoming guests from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and other resource persons, Prof. Anosike highlighted the importance of collaboration in combating corruption.
He remarked, “Their presence reaffirms the collaborative spirit between NiMet and the ICPC in our collective fight against corruption and underscores our commitment to institutionalizing ethics and integrity in public service.”
Presenting the NiMet Code of Ethics and Anti-Corruption and Bribery Policy, Prof. Anosike declared, “These documents signify our unwavering commitment to ethical conduct and our determination to combat corruption at all levels.
By unveiling these documents today, we reaffirm our commitment to fostering an environment where ethical behavior is a culture and corruption has no place.”
The NiMet boss concluded by stating that the Anti-Corruption and Bribery Policy represents NiMet’s zero-tolerance stance against corruption.
“This position is vital as corruption not only undermines the effectiveness of our services and the realization of our goals but also erodes public trust in the critical work we do.
The Policy details the Agency’s mechanisms to prevent, detect, and address any form of bribery and corruption.
It sends a clear message that NiMet is committed to transparency and accountability in all its operations.
His words; “All staff members are therefore expected to embrace and adhere to the highest standards of ethical conduct as stipulated in the NiMet Code of Ethics and Anti-Corruption and Bribery Policy.”
Mr. Charles Nwosu, representing the Chairman of the ICPC, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, expressed gratitude to NiMet’s management and staff for launching the Code of Ethics and Anti-Corruption and Bribery Policy.
“We are highly impressed with the working environment we have seen at NiMet.
“We are grateful to Professor Anosike for making himself available for this event. We will convey this positive impression to the ICPC Chairman, who will inform President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that NiMet is fully aligned with the fight against corruption.” Nwosu stated.
