The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the Centre for Well-being and Integrated Nutrition Solutions (C-WINS) have formalised a strategic partnership aimed at advancing climate action in Nigeria by linking climate intelligence with public health, food security and community resilience.

Under the agreement, NiMet and C-WINS will develop localized early-warning systems for farmers, providing real-time forecasts to guide decision-making.

The collaboration also includes community workshops on climate-smart agriculture, equipping farmers with adaptive techniques to improve yields while reducing exposure to climate-related risks.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Director-General/CEO of NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike, highlighted the initiative’s cross-cutting impact.

“Integrating climate intelligence will reduce health risks, strengthen food and nutrition security, improve soil health, and enhance disaster resilience.

NiMet’s role is to provide accurate meteorological data and tailored climate forecasts that will anchor these interventions.”

For C-WINS, the partnership is a practical step in translating science into impact. Dr. Mahmud Mustafa, Head of Missions at C-WINS, praised NiMet’s recent achievements and reaffirmed C-WINS’s commitment to implementation.

“Our focus is leveraging NiMet’s forecasts to design training for health workers, lead farmer workshops, and ensure communities adopt climate-smart practices. What matters is making climate information both accessible and actionable, especially in rural areas.”

By combining NiMet’s technical expertise with C-WINS’s grassroots reach, the programme aims to reduce climate-related health incidents, boost agricultural productivity, and foster resilience in vulnerable communities.

The synergy, stakeholders noted, will not only support farmers and health workers but also create a more informed population better prepared to withstand the shocks of a changing climate.
