In a moved aimed at deepening innovation for national transformation, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has entered into a key partnership with Landmark University to elevate climate research, improve meteorological data quality and strengthen climate science education nationwide.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed by both institutions, is designed to advance environmental resilience and support policies that drive sustainable national development.
Under the agreement, NiMet and Landmark University will collaborate on enhanced climate data collection, joint research projects, and academic programs that integrate modern climate science into university curricula.
NiMet’s Director General/Chief Executive Officer, Professor Charles Anosike, said the partnership aligns perfectly with the agency’s mission to boost accurate, data-driven forecasting and early warning capabilities.
“This collaboration will deepen research in critical areas such as drought monitoring, flood analysis and agricultural.
“It strengthens our efforts to provide timely, science-based information that supports national development”, Anosike stated.

On his part, Landmark University’s Pro-Chancellor, Dr. Olumuyiwa Oyeniyi, reiterated the institution’s dedication to advancing practical, impact-driven research.
According to him, the university is committed to creating an enabling environment for joint research activities, adding that Landmark will fully participate in research collaborations, staff exchange programmes, and community outreach efforts that translate scientific findings into real solutions for farmers, policymakers and local communities.
The MoU, according to both parties, reinforces the value of strong partnerships between academia and government agencies in confronting the realities of climate change.
By pairing NiMet’s technical expertise with Landmark University’s research capacity, both institutions aim to build a more resilient framework for climate monitoring, innovation and sustainable development across Nigeria.
