Passengers of ValueJet Airlines were in joyful mood as they disembarked without injuries from the CRJ 900 they boarded after it skidded off the runway at Port Harcourt International Airport on Tuesday afternoon
The jetliner, marked 5N-BXR, landed safely and there was no damage to the aircraft according to the airline.
Factechoes.com gathered that officials of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) have moved in to investigate the incident and unravel its cause.
However, the Managing Director of ValueJet, Captain Dapo Majekodunmi, explained that Captain Stanley Balami, who was in command of the flight, blamed the slip on algae growth on the taxiway, which prevented the jetliner from maintaining the centreline.
The aircraft landed at 15.32 hours with 62 passengers and five flight crew members.
