In a move aimed at enhancing transportation safety across Nigeria, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has formalised a strategic partnership with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
The collaboration was sealed on Thursday with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a significant step toward broadening the scope and effectiveness of safety investigations across all transport sectors, including road, aviation, maritime, and rail.
The MoU establishes a framework for shared expertise, joint investigations, and coordinated responses to safety-related incidents, laying the groundwork for more comprehensive and data-driven safety oversight.
By combining resources and technical capacity, NSIB and FRSC aim to ensure that every transportation incident is met with prompt investigation and actionable safety recommendations.
Speaking at the event, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., Director-General of NSIB, lauded FRSC’s growing role in road safety enforcement and emergency responsiveness.
He expressed confidence that the new partnership would further empower the FRSC to deliver on its mandate.
“The FRSC has made commendable progress in improving road safety. This partnership will help NSIB offer informed safety recommendations that can strengthen FRSC’s capacity. Our collaboration ensures that safety protocols are not just maintained, but continuously improved to meet evolving challenges,” Badeh said.
Also addressing the occasion, FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, described the MoU as a milestone in cross-sector collaboration, noting its importance beyond road safety.
“The signing of this MoU with NSIB is all about making our environment safer, not just the aviation space, but also the roads and railways. They’re responsible for safety investigations across the entire transport sector. We are committed to deeper collaboration that makes our roads safer for the motoring public,” he stated.
The agreement is expected to significantly enhance the country’s transport safety framework, particularly in light of increasing traffic-related incidents.
The initiative will also help standardise safety investigation procedures across all modes of transport and promote transparency and accountability in the implementation of safety measures.
Under the terms of the MoU, both agencies will engage in joint workshops, data sharing, and real-time operational coordination.
These efforts will support a dynamic, feedback-driven approach to safety improvement and policy development.
The partnership reaffirms NSIB’s role as Nigeria’s central investigative authority for transport incidents.
By working closely with FRSC, the bureau aims to deliver evidence-based insights that support national road safety goals and align with international standards.
As the collaboration takes root, both NSIB and FRSC are optimistic about the tangible impact it will have.
Their joint focus will include quicker and more effective accident responses, improved investigation timelines, and stronger safety outcomes across the board.
“We are committed to creating a safer transport system for all Nigerians,” said Mrs. Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji, NSIB’s Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance.
“This MoU signals a future where safety recommendations are not only thorough but implemented in ways that save lives.”
The NSIB-FRSC alliance is expected to usher in a new era of inter-agency cooperation, reinforcing Nigeria’s commitment to safer, smarter transport infrastructure.
