The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has opened an investigation into a runway excursion involving a Boeing 737-400 cargo aircraft, registration 5N-JRT, operated by Allied Air.
The incident occurred at 10:06am local time on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by Mrs. Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji, Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance at the NSIB.
According to her, Flight AJK206, arriving from Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, veered off the right side of Runway 22 and ended up on the grass verge after landing.
Although the aircraft suffered significant damage, no injuries or fatalities were reported among the crew or ground personnel.
She added that emergency teams swiftly secured the site, ensuring personnel safety and containment.
“Our Go Team has been dispatched to conduct an on-site assessment, recover relevant data, and interview involved parties,” she said.
The NSIB Spokesperson assured that the Bureau will investigate the causes and contributing factors, with further updates to follow as information emerges.
