To improve transport safety and accident prevention in Oyo State, the Director General of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), Captain Alex Badeh Jr. along with his team, visited the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde to fine-tune modalities of achieving the objective.

This was disclosed by Mrs. Bimbo Olawumi Oladejiz Director, Public Affairs and Family Assistance at NSIB.

According to her, the visit aimed to reinforce the relationship between the NSIB and the state government, while exploring potential areas for collaboration to implement effective transport safety measures and enhance accident prevention strategies within the state.

During the meeting, Captain Badeh expressed his deep appreciation for Governor Makinde’s leadership, commending his administration’s commitment to infrastructural development across the state.

He highlighted the importance of embedding robust safety protocols in all sectors, particularly in transportation, where stringent safety standards are critical to reducing accidents.

Captain Badeh outlined the NSIB’s mission, highlighting the bureau’s significant contributions in improving safety standards through comprehensive investigations, actionable safety recommendations, and proactive engagement with stakeholders.

“We are here to acknowledge your visionary leadership and explore opportunities for working together to promote a culture of transport safety in Oyo State. NSIB is dedicated to ensuring safety is prioritised in every aspect of development, and by collaborating with state governments, we can contribute to safer environments throughout Nigeria,” Captain Badeh stated.

Governor Seyi Makinde welcomed the NSIB team and commended their efforts in enhancing transport safety across the country.

He expressed his eagerness to explore how Oyo State could benefit from NSIB’s expertise, particularly in improving safety measures in transportation, public safety, and accident prevention.

“The work of NSIB is crucial in ensuring that we learn from past mistakes and prevent future accidents. I appreciate your proactive approach in engaging with stakeholders, and I look forward to exploring how we can collaborate further,” Governor Makinde said.

He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to advancing infrastructure development while ensuring that safety remains at the forefront of every project.

The discussions centered around mutual interests, including the need for continuous safety training, the importance of public education campaigns, and the role of collaboration between federal and state agencies in driving safety initiatives forward.

Both parties agreed on the need for a strategic partnership that would focus on safety measures in transportation and infrastructure projects within the state, with an emphasis on public awareness and the promotion of safety protocols.

Captain Badeh assured the Governor that the NSIB would continue to provide technical support to the state government in implementing safety measures and best practices in transport-related projects.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of public awareness campaigns aimed at instilling a culture of safety among citizens, which both parties agreed would be vital in reducing accidents and improving overall safety in the state.

The visit concluded with a strong commitment from both the NSIB and the Oyo State Government to work together in developing and implementing initiatives that will not only enhance transport safety within Oyo State but also set a positive example for other states to follow.

Both parties recognized that achieving lasting improvements in safety standards requires a unified effort between federal agencies and state governments, and expressed their dedication to taking concrete steps toward safer transport systems and communities in Nigeria.
