To fortify Nigeria’s aviation landscape, the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has commenced an extensive multimodal transport accident investigation training, featuring participants from the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, and NSIB personnel.
The effort, which empties into advancing transportation safety across Nigeria, also aligns with the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo’s wider vision for modernising the nation’s aviation ecosystem.
The Director, Public Affairs and Family Assistance at the NSIB, Mrs. Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji, stated these in a statement on Saturday.
According to her, the training, led by global experts from prestigious institutions such as Cranfield University and Buckinghamshire New University in the United Kingdom, alongside Nigeria’s Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), is designed to impart advanced investigative skills and international best practices.
From a federal standpoint, equipping military and NSIB personnel with strategic knowledge, deeply enhances Nigeria’s capacity to handle complex transportation investigations with the ultimate goal of preventing future incidents.
The milestone, stakeholders acknowledge, accentuates NSIB’s mission to elevate the standards of transportation safety.
With the participation of military personnel, the programme encourages a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to accident investigation, fostering the exchange of knowledge and promoting cooperation across sectors.
This effort underscores the Bureau’s commitment to ensuring a safer transport network in Nigeria’s fast-growing economy.
Commenting on the programme, the Director General of NSIB, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., said the initiative remains critical not only for enhancing Nigeria’s investigative capabilities but also for ensuring that the country is prepared to address the increasing complexities of its transportation infrastructure.
He added that by bringing together military institutions and global experts, the federal government was building a safety framework that will safeguard all Nigerians.
The training aligns with NSIB’s strategic goals of improving investigative efficiency, promoting transparency in safety reporting, and proactively reducing future incidents through risk management.
These objectives are in lockstep with Mr. Festus Keyamo’s agenda for the aviation industry, which focuses on boosting safety standards, enhancing institutional capacity, and adopting modern safety protocols in line with global benchmarks.
The expected outcomes of the training include a significant enhancement in NSIB’s ability to conduct comprehensive, unbiased investigations, ultimately contributing to accident prevention and saving lives.
This initiative is central to the Bureau’s long-term goal of becoming a leader in transportation safety across Africa, positioning Nigeria as a model for safety excellence in the region.
As Nigeria’s transport infrastructure continues to expand, players note that NSIB’s role in ensuring the safety of the nation’s air, land, and sea transport systems becomes even more critical.
This training program represents a vital investment in the human capital necessary to meet the growing demands for transport safety in the country.
