To modernise Port Harcourt International Airport (PHIA) and elevate its operational standards, the Rivers State Government, under the leadership of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has embarked on a comprehensive infrastructure upgrade.

The effort, which includes the expansion of access roads and the remodeling of the airport’s car parks, is designed to improve efficiency, enhance passenger experience, and bring the facility closer to international standards.

A major component of the upgrade is the expansion of the access roads leading to the airport, aimed at easing congestion and ensuring smoother vehicular movement for travelers.

Additionally, the internal roads in front of the domestic terminal, which have long been in poor condition, are being rehabilitated to facilitate better traffic flow and improve passenger safety.

The project also includes significant construction work at the airport’s toll gate, where efforts are underway to enhance accessibility and reduce bottlenecks for vehicles entering and exiting the airport.

To improve passenger convenience, a dedicated drop-off zone is being constructed at the Domestic Terminal, ensuring a more streamlined and comfortable experience for travelers.

The road directly in front of the terminal building is also undergoing reconstruction, a move that will not only enhance aesthetics but also optimize functionality for both arriving and departing passengers.

In addition, the remodeling of the airport’s day and overnight car parks is in its final stages, promising improved organisation and better security for travelers’ vehicles.

The extensive modernisation of Port Harcourt International Airport reflects the Rivers State Government’s commitment to positioning the airport as a premier aviation hub in Nigeria’s South-South region.

Governor Fubara’s administration sees the transformation as a catalyst for economic growth, one that will boost tourism, attract investment, and reinforce Port Harcourt’s status as a vital gateway for business and travel.

With the government assuring timely completion of the project to minimise disruptions, travelers and stakeholders can look forward to a more modern, efficient, and passenger-friendly airport in the coming months; one that stands as a testament to the state’s vision for world-class infrastructure and sustainable development.
