There was a botched attempt by three thieves to steal underground armoured cables belonging to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Lagos.
Luck ran out of the criminals who were armed with diggers and shovels as armed security Personnel at the Nigerian Airforce gate spotted them digging out the cables and promptly went after them.
On sighting the guards, the robbers took to their heels, two managed to escape, while the third person was not so lucky as he was shot in the arm and subsequently arrested.
Abdullahi Yakubu-Funtua, Director Public Affairs & Consumer Protection, (FAAN), who confirmed the development in a statement explained that plans were afoot to arrest the fleeing members of the syndicate.
He gave the name of the arrested robber as Usman Musa, 28, a native of Adamawa State but resides at Ijora.
“He sustained gunshot wounds and was subsequently arrested and taken to 661NAFH Ikeja.
“He is presently receiving treatment at General Hospital Oyingbo while his other two accomplices escaped. Usman Musa will be properly interrogated after he has stabilized”, Funtua stated.
“The Authority believes that this incident could be a relevant clue to unravelling the theft of the Runway Lighting at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja”, he said.
