Security operatives at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport have intercepted a 14-year-old boy, Eke Miracle, during a daring attempt to sneak onto an aircraft, in what authorities described as a serious breach of aviation security.

The incident, which occurred on Monday, March 30, 2026, saw the teenager discovered on the airport’s tarmac while allegedly trying to gain access beneath an aircraft preparing for operations.

According to the Airport Police Command, preliminary investigations revealed that the minor unlawfully entered a restricted section of the airport without authorisation, in violation of established safety regulations.

Police said his actions were “consistent with a stowaway attempt,” raising concerns over the risks posed to both the individual and flight operations within a highly sensitive environment.

Following his interception, the teenager was taken into protective custody, with authorities stressing that all procedures were carried out in line with child protection laws.

His parents were immediately contacted, and the interview process was conducted in their presence, while welfare support was provided throughout.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Airport Command, Ogunbode Olufunke, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding critical aviation infrastructure.

“The airport remains a critical national asset that requires strict adherence to security regulations at all times,” she said, warning that breaches, no matter how minor, pose significant safety risks.

While noting that due process would be followed, the police boss urged parents and guardians to be more vigilant.

“We urge parents and guardians to exercise greater vigilance over their children and wards, particularly in relation to movements around restricted and high-risk environments such as airports,” she added.

Authorities further disclosed that the matter would be handled in line with juvenile justice procedures, with plans to arraign the minor before the appropriate juvenile court.

The command reiterated that while security enforcement remains firm, the rights and welfare of minors would continue to be upheld in line with the law.

The incident has once again highlighted persistent concerns around perimeter security and unauthorized access at major transport hubs, even as officials insist that surveillance and response systems remain robust.
