The Managing Director of ValueJet, Captain Omololu Majekodunmi, has highlighted the airline’s inaugural flight to Banjul, The Gambia, as an intentional and strategic step designed to bolster trade relations between Nigeria and The Gambia.
Affirming ValueJet’s dedication to safe and efficient operations, Captain Majekodunmi emphasised the airline’s strict adherence to regulatory standards while expressing strong confidence in the viability of the Lagos-Banjul route, which will be served by the airline’s CRJ-900 aircraft.
He said, “The launch of our Lagos to Banjul flight is yet another important milestone in ValueJet’s vision to enhance regional connectivity and contribute to the economic growth of West Africa. Our commitment is to make travel within the continent more accessible and efficient with fares as low as N500,000.”
Captain Majekodunmi further noted that the new connection is poised to deepen economic ties and promote tourism between Nigeria and The Gambia—two of West Africa’s most vibrant regions.
He added that ValueJet is currently the only airline in West Africa offering direct flights to Banjul.
“The route offers immense opportunities for trade, investment, and cultural exchange, especially given The Gambia’s expanding tourism sector and Nigeria’s dynamic business environment,” he said.
The airline’s new service aims to support businesses by providing faster, more efficient travel options that bridge key distances within the region.
The launch event, held on May 15, 2025, at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the check-in counters, marking the official commencement of the route.
Among those present were the Gambian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mohamadou Musa Njie; Tracy Osakwe, Director of Tourism Promotions at the Gambia Tourism Board; Ansumana Ceesay, Liaison Officer of the Gambia High Commission; and media figures including Isaac and Nneka Moses of Goge Africa.
This new route highlights ValueJet’s commitment to expanding regional connectivity and growing its presence across West Africa.
Beyond the Lagos-Banjul flights, the airline plans to integrate this route with its domestic network, offering passengers broader travel options.
The Gambian government has expressed full support for ValueJet and its passengers, recognizing the airline’s role in promoting regional integration.
