In light of recent challenges encountered by Air Peace, especially regarding slot allocations in the United Kingdom and other hiccups, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has assured of the federal government’s strong backing for the airline and other domestic carriers at all times.
He praised the flag carrier for its remarkable growth and commitment to excellence, highlighting the government’s resolve to support a robust and resilient aviation industry, which in turn bolsters the economy.
Keyamo gave the assurance at Air Peace’s 10th anniversary celebrations held on October 25.
He lauded the airline’s determination to stay in the skies and even flying to destinations dreaded by its local competitors.
Speaking further, he hailed Air Peace as a true emblem of national pride, commending the airline’s ability to compete on the global stage while elevating Nigeria’s standing in international aviation.
“Air Peace flies the Nigerian flag high”, Keyamo said, even as he urged the carrier to trudge on strongly as it hoists Nigeria’s flag on the global aviation scene.
Recognising the visionary leadership of Onyema, Keyamo expressed profound gratitude for his contributions, which have shaped the airline’s remarkable growth and influence.
He urged other Nigerian airlines to embrace similarly ambitious, forward-looking strategies, emphasising that Air Peace’s success stands as a testament to what is possible through strong management and unflinching dedication.
Keyamo also highlighted the appreciable growth of Nigeria’s aviation sector, citing recent studies showing that the country generates 80% of Africa’s domestic air traffic, with the Lagos–Abuja route ranking as the busiest on the continent.
He noted that Air Peace is exceptionally equipped to meet the escalating demand, setting high standards for the industry through its ambitious growth and dedication to excellence.
The Minister further revealed that top global aircraft financiers and lessors have invited him, alongside Nigerian airline operators, to a high-level meeting scheduled for January 2025.
This gathering aims to secure vital support and financing for local airlines, a step that promises to elevate Nigeria’s position in the global aviation arena.
The aviation boss reassured stakeholders of the government’s robust commitment, emphasising its ongoing efforts to implement reforms that support local carriers.
He urged Nigerian airlines to embrace sustainable, long-term strategies, underscoring the government’s focus on creating a conducive environment for the continued growth and success of the nation’s aviation industry.
