As the festive season peaks, Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), the operator of Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2 (MMA2), has issued a strong reminder to all passengers about the importance of maintaining respect and decorum within the airport.
The move comes in response to recent reports of unruly and violent behaviour by some passengers, which BASL is committed to preventing at all costs.
The company has reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy toward any form of violence or disruptive conduct, ensuring that all travelers experience a safe and pleasant journey.
While the holiday season is often filled with excitement and anticipation, it can also bring frustration, especially when passengers experience flight delays or cancellations.
BASL said it recognises the challenges that these disruptions can cause, but urged travelers to express their concerns through the proper channels as outlined in Part 19 of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations (Nig.CARs).
This regulatory framework clearly defines passenger rights, as well as the responsibilities of airlines, travel agents, and tour operators, creating an efficient and orderly system for addressing complaints and resolving issues.
The company in a statement said its zero-tolerance policy means that any form of unruly behaviour, whether verbal abuse, physical altercations, or other disruptive actions, will not be tolerated.
The company maintained that it is totally committed to upholding the highest standards of safety and security for all passengers, staff, and stakeholders.
It added that passengers found engaging in inappropriate conduct will face immediate legal action, which may include prosecution to the fullest extent of the law.
Additionally, those responsible for such behavior may be added to no-fly lists, preventing future access to air travel.
“We want to emphasise that while we understand the frustrations that come with travel disruptions, we must ensure a safe and secure environment for all passengers.
“We encourage all travelers to approach issues calmly and cooperatively, and to communicate concerns in an appropriate manner. Our dedicated staff is here to assist you, and we will take swift action to address any incidents of unruly behaviour.”
The airport operator also called on passengers to work together with airport personnel to maintain a harmonious atmosphere, especially as the holiday season sees a surge in travel activity.
BASL is also reminding travelers that security personnel are available to handle reports of inappropriate conduct and will take prompt action to ensure that any disruptive behavior is addressed immediately.
“As we approach the busy yuletide season, it’s important for all of us to exercise patience and understanding. Cooperation between passengers and airport staff is essential to ensuring a smooth and stress-free experience,” BASL said in a statement. “Together, we can make MMA2 a safe, respectful, and welcoming place for everyone.”
With this proactive approach, stakeholders note that BASL is setting a high standard for airport operations, demonstrating its commitment to ensuring a positive and secure experience for all passengers during the festive season and beyond. The airport’s dedication to safety, security, and customer service promises to make MMA2 a model for other terminals in the country.
