The Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), Prof. Celeste Saulo, welcomed council members to the ongoing annual meeting. This session is the first for Prof. Saulo as Secretary-General.
The meeting is presided over by WMO President Dr. Abdulla Al Mandous and includes the attendance of Prof. Charles Anosike, Director General and CEO of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the WMO.
In her welcoming address, Prof. Saulo emphasized the critical role of National Meteorological and Hydrological Services in mitigating the impacts of climate change and extreme weather.
She highlighted the need for collaboration to save lives and enhance resilience in a changing climate. Key agenda items for the meeting include the initiatives “Early Warnings For All” and the Global Greenhouse Gas Watch.
