Politicians and airline Operators must learn from mistakes of the past leaders and governments, to avoid repeating same mishaps and moving in the right direction.
Former president of the Aviation Safety Round Table Initiatives (ASRTI), Dr. Gabriel Olowo said this in an interview with the media in Lagos at the just concluded 27th edition of the conference hosted by the League of Airport Aviation Correspondents (LAAC).
To avoid the reoccurring short life span by local airlines, he said they should learn from the mistakes of the past.
According to him; “go and take a case study of Belview, ADC, Okada and many others. Look at how and why they failed. If the government was responsible for the problem, we must think, ‘how do we handle the government?”
Dr. Olowo argued that government political appointees had always been the issue in the aviation industry in Nigeria, a situation he said needed to change.
“They tell you, ‘you can’t fly the flag.’ Air Peace has been flying the flag to Ghana, Liberia, and China now. And I am sure if you look at those routes, for them not to be in red is questionable,” he said.
He advised government officials and the entirety of Nigerians not to limit their mutual love to only when international sport like football is won by the country’s team.
“We must be result-oriented, when you are in political office, Make sure the value you are adding is not to line your pockets. Make sure the value you are adding is foadvised.rity.” he advised
